UK visa from Thailand: your complete 2026 guide

Every year thousands of Thai nationals apply for a UK visa — to visit family, marry a partner, study or work. This guide explains who needs a visa, the main visa types, how to apply from Thailand through VFS, and what it costs in 2026. We prepare, translate and make your whole application submission-ready.

Do Thai citizens need a UK visa?

Thai passport holders are visa nationals — you must be granted a UK visa before you travel, even for a short holiday. Thailand is not part of the Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) scheme — the cheaper travel permit some nationalities can use — so you need a full visa such as a Standard Visitor visa.

✓ Full visa required✗ ETA not available

How to apply for a UK visa from Thailand

Every UK visa application from Thailand follows the same path:

1

Apply online at gov.uk & pay the fee (plus IHS where it applies).

2

Book a VFS appointment — Bangkok, Chiang Mai or Phuket.

3

Attend in person for biometrics & submit your documents.

4

VFS sends it to UK Visas & Immigration — await the decision.

5

Get your passport back & access your eVisa via a UKVI account.

We handle steps 1–3 for you: completing the forms, certified-translating and organising your documents, and booking your VFS appointment.

Good to know

Common questions

Do Thai citizens need a UK visa?
Yes. Thai passport holders must apply for a UK visa (e.g. a Standard Visitor visa). They are NOT eligible for the cheaper Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) — a common and costly confusion.
Does a UK visa cover Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland?
Yes — one UK visa covers all four nations of the United Kingdom: England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. In Thai it is commonly called ‘วีซ่าอังกฤษ’ (literally ‘England visa’), but it is a UK-wide visa.
Are you a law firm or immigration advisers?
No. We prepare documents, translate, complete forms and book your VFS appointment. We are not IAA-registered and not a law firm, and we don’t give regulated immigration advice. For case-specific advice we’ll point you to the IAA register or a solicitor.
How much does it cost?
The UK government fee depends on the visa (6-month visitor £135; spouse/partner £2,064) plus the health surcharge where it applies. Our service fee is separate, from ฿2,990. Use the calculator above for an all-in baht estimate.
Do you guarantee my visa will be approved?
No one can — the decision is the Home Office’s alone. We make sure your application is complete, accurate and well-organised, which is what we can control.
How do I apply for a UK visa from Thailand?
Apply online on gov.uk and pay the fee, then book and attend a VFS Global appointment in Bangkok, Chiang Mai or Phuket to give your biometrics and submit documents. We can complete the forms, translate your documents and book the appointment for you.
How long does a UK visa from Thailand take?
Visitor visas are usually decided in about three weeks; settlement (spouse/family) applications up to about 12 weeks. Priority services can be faster where available.
Will I get a visa sticker or a digital eVisa?
The UK has moved to digital eVisas, accessed through a UKVI account with a share code. In some cases you may still receive a short-validity sticker for initial travel. We explain exactly what to expect for your route.
